About Gear Up Get Out

REI does not participate in Black Friday or Cyber Monday in an effort to encourage more people to get outdoors. However, not everyone has equitable access to #optoutside easily. A third of the US does not have outside spaces close to where they live. If you’d like to support REI’s mission to get over 100 million people outside in 5 minutes or less check out the Outside in 5 campaign.

The Hands Down Best Gift: Garmin inReach Mini 2 Satellite Communicator  - $100 off!

I firmly believe that everyone should have a satellite phone, whether adventuring solo or with a group. The upfront cost is well worth having access to life-saving support at the click of a button. If anything, buy it as a gift for that friend who is constantly MIA and worrying you.

I love the InReach Mini because of the two-way messaging functionality from the Earthmate app on your phone. This allows you to send texts along with your coordinates to any contact on your phone. Additionally, you can set up your own website for friends and family to track your trek. I could go on and on, but if you're debating a satellite phone, definitely put this on your Christmas list or get it for your adventuresome loved one who sometimes worries you - much like my parents did for me.

*Please note there is a subscription required for having a Garmin InReach active foe messaging which costs $20/month at minimum

For the camper:

MSR PocketRocket Stove Kit - 25% Off

So you want to start backcountry cooking or want a small stove setup? The MSR PocketRocket is the most cost effective and reliable stove on the market and it fits so small. If it’s just a stove you’re after I recommend the MSR PocketRocket Deluxe Stove. However, if you’re after an entire kitchen set I recommend the MSR PocketRocket Stove Kit for the nesting functionality including stove, pot, dishes and sporks.

REI Co-op Half Dome SL 2+ Tent with Footprint - 30% Off

This tent will always hold a special place in my heart as it was my first tent and the tent I used to start solo camping. I spent over 60 nights in it and probably abused it a bit too much. I slept in extreme winds, cold and rain in it and never had a problem. The only reason I switched now was to get a bit smaller and lighter tent for backpacking as this tent didn’t pack down as much as I’d like.

Nemo Disco 15 Sleeping Bag - 50% Off

I'm the type of person who likes to sleep with many blankets and feel cozy and warm. I'd also rather have a warm sleeping bag and sleep on top of it than have a bag that's not warm enough and be too cold. I have never loved a sleeping bag more than the Disco; it's also ideal for side sleepers. And it is 50% off! I paid at least $300 for it and it’s only $159 right now for the regular. Definitely snag this deal, even paying full price it has still been worth every penny.

Klymit Insulated Static V - over 25% off

You may be like me and feel that you have the "I'm tough" mentality and act like you don't need a sleeping pad. However, if you're hiking and active all day, nothing is nicer than coming back to camp and having a great sleep. I have used this for front country camping and backpacking and I always get a good sleep.

Nemo Fillo Pillow - 25% Off

This is the camp item that may make you the happiest. While the stuff sack or a pile of clothes will suffice, treat yourself to a good night's rest with a nice camp pillow.

For the one who likes it hot:

REI Co-op Sahara Shade Hoodie (Men's | Women’s) - 30% Off

The sun is nice, but not when you’re trekking through it for hours and water is scarce. I’ve recently become a lover of sun shirts and when the heat is really beating down this shade hoodie is even better to protect the back of your neck and face. It’s lightweight, comfortable, breathable and will keep you going in the sun all day.

prAna Halle Shorts - 25% Off

These hiking shorts are so good. I do not know how to express it enough. They are stylish enough to wear to the farmers market or out to a bar and comfortable enough to wear on the trail.

For the person who’s out in the cold:

Smartwool Ski Targeted Cushion Over the Calf Socks (Women’s | Men’s) - 25% Off

The most wonderful time of the year is right around the corner and we are talking sliding time. Ski season! Smarwool makes such good ski socks too. They’re cushioned and give you extra comfort to ride all day long!

REI Brand Trekking Poles - 30% Off

Hiking poles are all around the best. They save your knees, help you up steep inclines, and overall help you keep going in the hardest terrain. They will change your hiking life and are crucial for winter hiking. I can not recommend getting a pair of poles enough.

Down Jackets

I live in my Patagonia puffer, but REI was having so many good sales on these types of jackets that I just couldn’t choose one. All of these brands are great and have amazing lifetimes and repair policies and I’d recommend all of them, it just depends on your budget.

Outdoor Research Helium Down Hoodie (Women’s | Men’s) - 25% Off

Cotopaxi Fuego Hooded Down Jacket (Women’s | Men’s)- 25% Off
